Aston Villa are monitoring Celta Vigo right-back Oscar Mingueza ahead of the summer window, according to ExpressAndStar.com. The 26-year-old is due to become a free agent at the end of the season.

First-choice right-back Matty Cash signed a new deal earlier this season, but reliable cover has been an issue during Unai Emery’s reign. Lamare Bogarde impressed when deputising last month, while Andres Garcia, signed from Levante in January 2025, has endured an injury-hit first full season in English football.

Villa’s summer plans will again be largely shaped by whether they qualify for the Champions League. They will still be restricted to some extent by Uefa’s financial fair play rules, regardless of any return to Europe’s elite competition.

Emery’s squad will train at Bodymoor Heath on Wednesday morning before flying to Italy early in the afternoon.

They return after an 18-day break to face Bologna on Thursday night in the first leg of a Europa League quarter-final.

The Spaniard faces making at least two changes from the side that beat West Ham 2-0 in the Premier League, with Jadon Sancho missing with a shoulder injury and Ross Barkley not in the Europa League squad.
