Manchester United’s midfield problems are well documented at this stage.
Ruben Amorim has largely relied on the ageing pair of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro this season to patch together the centre of the park.
It is quite clear that United will pursue midfield targets over the next couple of windows.
They have been heavily linked to numerous Premier League based players such as Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson.
The Red Devils also have an interest in Conor Gallagher who is currently playing his football in Spain with Atletico Madrid.
United could be looking at another La Liga player to fill the midfield gaps according to reports in Spain.
Tchouameni has been frequently linked with a move to United over the years.
It was reported last summer that the Red Devils were keen to make a sensational move for the French international but no deal came into fruition.
Defensa Central now report that United, “wants to renew Casemiro’s contract, but with a lower salary that the former Madrid player is unlikely to accept. This has opened the door to his possible departure and the signing of a new defensive midfielder.”
Consequently, Tchouameni is United’s “first choice” to replace the veteran Brazilian.
The report claims that United have been following Tchouameni’s fine performances for Madrid but that the Spanish club have no interest in selling the player.
The article states that Madrid would only consider an offer of around €90-100 million.
Crucially, “the only possibility that Real Madrid will consider an offer for Tchouameni is if the Frenchman expressly asks to leave.”
The midfielder’s current deal runs on to 2028 and the Spanish giants would love to extend his contract into the 2030s.
