Casemiro: Man United fans torn on what to do with veteran

2025 has been a year of redemption for Manchester United’s veteran midfielder Casemiro.

Ruben Amorim originally had no plans for the Brazilian midfielder as he claimed he was below Toby Collyer in his thoughts.

Casemiro found gametime hard to come by at Old Trafford and was also being regularly overlooked at international level.

Fast forward 11 months and he is now the first choice midfielder and the captain of Brazil heading into next summer’s World Cup.

Amorim has praised Casemiro’s work rate and attitude in recent weeks as he has started the season in top form.

What to do with him?

The complication for United is that the Brazilian’s contract is ending this summer. It was assumed the club would let him leave on a free but his form has changed this.

It is thought that Amorim would happily extend his contract now, but United insist he would have to earn a lot less money than he currently does to make it economically viable.

Consequently, The Peoples Person asked its readers to decide on what they would do with the veteran midfield general.

39% of fans would still let Casemiro leave this summer according to our poll. While the Brazilian will have impressed most fans, perhaps the club should free up vital wage space and playing time for a new signing or in fact, Kobbie Mainoo.

23% of respondents took a more pragmatic approach, claiming it was too early to say right now.

While it is true Casemiro has been in fine form, he is a player who is prone to erratic periods of rising and dipping form.

22% of readers feel that he has done enough to stay at least one more year at the club.

Casemiro has an option on his current deal that would see a one-year extension triggered and perhaps the club could revisit the situation after seeing his level in 2026-2027.

Finally, 16% of supporters have been convinced by Casemiro and feel that he still has some good years ahead of him at the highest level.

They claim that the club would be smart to agree a new two or three-year deal with the Brazilian but crucially at a significantly lower financial cost.
