Rafael Leao’s future at AC Milan is once again in the spotlight, but FC Barcelona appear unlikely to revive their long-standing interest after reshaping their attacking options this summer.

The Portuguese winger has received a lucrative proposal from Turkish giants Fenerbahce, who are preparing a permanent move as they look to make a major statement in the transfer market.

According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, Fenerbahce are ready to offer Milan up to €50 million, including bonuses, for Leao, while the player has been presented with a five-year contract worth €8 million per season, plus additional performance-related incentives.

The report also claims that super-agent Jorge Mendes explored the possibility of taking Leao to Barcelona earlier in the transfer window.

However, Barca are no longer in the market for a left winger.

The arrivals of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi have already transformed Hansi Flick’s attacking options, leaving the club focused instead on strengthening the centre-forward position.

That makes a move for Leao highly unlikely, regardless of his availability.

Instead, Barcelona continue to prioritise their pursuit of Julian Alvarez while monitoring alternative striker options should that deal fail to materialise.

Milan preparing for life after Leao

Fenerbahce’s interest appears genuine, although the Turkish club must first reduce the number of foreign players in their squad before accelerating negotiations.

If Leao leaves, Milan are reportedly ready to move for Genk wonderkid Konstantinos Karetsas, who has emerged as their preferred replacement despite strong competition from Borussia Dortmund.

From Barcelona’s perspective, this is another example of how quickly the transfer market can evolve.

Leao has long been linked with Camp Nou because of his pace, dribbling ability and match-winning qualities, but circumstances have changed. Flick now has greater depth on the wings than he did earlier in the summer, making other areas of the squad a higher priority.

While Leao remains one of Europe’s most dangerous wide forwards, Barcelona’s recruitment strategy appears far more balanced than in previous windows.

Rather than chasing every big name who becomes available, the club seem determined to stick to their plan.
