Brazil’s 1-2 last-16 defeat by Norway has left the five-time world champions shorn of their fear factor, exposing a generational dip, a lost identity and chronic instability.

According to L'Équipe, the squad will disperse on Tuesday after a subdued Monday in the New York area following Sunday’s loss.

Expectation now weighs heavy on Carlo Ancelotti’s side. If the drought extends to 2030 it will be 28 years without a title, unprecedented for the Seleção.

Executive coordinator Rodrigo Caetano said continuity is the first decision of the new cycle, keeping the coaching staff for four years, and he called for serenity to reach 2030 in better shape.

The CBF has lurched through judicial and political turmoil. President Ednaldo Rodrigues was deposed in 2023 when a Rio court annulled his 2022 election, reinstated in January 2024 after a FIFA warning, then removed again last year amid a forged signature case involving former chief Antônio Carlos Nunes. Samir Xaud later took over as sole candidate and has since faced allegations of misusing CBF funds for hotel stays during the World Cup.

Since Tite left in 2022 Brazil have had four coaches, with Dorival Junior sacked in March 2025 after a 1-4 loss to Argentina and Ancelotti arriving only a year out. Injuries also hit, yet selection calls drew fire, including omitting Andrey Santos and preferring Neymar over Joao Pedro. Neymar played his final Seleção match, and former international Zé Elias argued he was unfit and that the reshuffle was costly.
