Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling has turned down a loan offer from West Ham United.
Hammers manager Nuno Espirito Santo is an admirer of the 31-year-old. He tried to bring him to Nottingham Forest last summer.
West Ham were in talks with Chelsea over a loan move, but the Times claims Sterling has rejected their approach.
The former Liverpool and Manchester City star prefers a permanent move and hopes to join Fulham.
Sterling has not played a single minute of competitive football this season. He failed to impress during his loan spell at Arsenal last season, scoring once in 28 appearances.
Enzo Maresca, who recently left his role as Chelsea manager, never showed any interest in featuring the right winger in his squad this season.
His £325,000-per-week contract at Stamford Bridge does not expire until June 2027.
West Ham are desperate to sign players in the winter transfer window as they face a difficult battle to stay in the Premier League.
Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion left them four points away from safety.
West Ham have agreed a £25 million deal to bring in Taty Castellanos from Lazio. They are close to signing Gil Vicente forward Pablo.
They are also pursuing a move for Adama Traore, but his excessive wage demands are a major stumbling block.
