Copa Argentina: Boca to face Gimnasia de Chivilcoy, last met in 1974 friendly | OneFootball

Boca will begin their 2026 Copa Argentina in the last 64 against Gimnasia y Esgrima de Chivilcoy, after Wednesday's draw at the AFA complex in Ezeiza.

According to LaNumer12.com.ar, this is the first competitive meeting, and the clubs have only played once before. That was a friendly on Tuesday 22 October 1974 at Gimnasia's José María Paz stadium, packed with home supporters.

The match formed part of Chivilcoy's 120th anniversary commemorations and was attended by the then Buenos Aires provincial governor, Victorio Calabró. Several Boca idols featured.

Rogelio Domínguez's Boca won 6-0, with Marcelo Trobbiano scoring four, an own goal by Horacio Milozzi and Carlos García Cambón adding the other. Gimnasia had strengthened that season with Carlos Malespina and Juan José Serio.

In February 2025, Gimnasia won the Torneo Regional Federal Amateur by beating Deportivo Graneros de Tucumán 2-1, earning promotion to Federal A. They collected 30 points in Group C in the regular season and advanced to the Second Phase, joining Zone B.

They finished third on 14 points, which secured a 2026 Copa Argentina place and progression, before losing 3-1 to 9 de Julio de Rafaela in the fourth stage of the Reválida. They had earlier knocked out El Liqueño and Juventud Anotoniana.

Gimnasia's squad watched the draw together at their club and celebrated when Boca's ball appeared. The Verdiblanco later said on social media it would be an honour and the biggest match in their history, promising to approach it with humility and passion.
