Habib Beye experienced his first disappointment with Olympique de Marseille, being knocked out of the Coupe de France by Toulouse FC.
After a morale-boosting 3-2 win over Lyon last Sunday, OM let down their fans by losing at home to Toulouse on penalties (2-2, 3-4 on pens) on Wednesday night in the Coupe de France quarter-finals.
Beyond this elimination, which comes on top of their UEFA Champions League exit, Habib Beye has now set a rather unfortunate record in the competition.
Indeed, the Senegalese coach had already exited the Coupe de France with Stade Rennais in the previous round, losing to OM (3-0) on February 3 at the Vélodrome.
He thus becomes the first coach to be eliminated with two different clubs in the same edition of the Coupe de France since 1945 and the post-war era.
Now, the Phocéens have only one objective left for the remainder of the season: to clinch qualification for the next edition of the Champions League.
