Dominic Calvert-Lewin heads back to Merseyside on Monday with nine goals to his name, aiming to reach double figures at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium and remind his former club what they let go.

“It will be a strange feeling, having been there for so long and then going up against them and familiar faces that I played with for a long time,” he told LUTV. “But for me, it is just another game. It is another opportunity for me to keep thriving, to keep my good run of form going.”

Having left Everton in the summer after a nine-year stay, the free agent weighed overseas offers, including from a Champions League club, before choosing Leeds for Premier League football and a return to Yorkshire. The process from initial talks to signing took only a week, according to the striker.

Asked about the decision not to renew his deal, David Moyes said the parties could not make it work. He also pointed to the 28-year-old’s renewed fitness, with Calvert-Lewin available for every match since his Leeds debut.

A goal on Monday would bring up double figures in a single season for the first time since 2020/21. It could also sharpen any regret at Everton, with his exit decision made only weeks after former Leeds chief executive Angus Kinnear joined the club’s board.
