Of all the cup ties this weekend – across the Adobe Women’s FA Cup and the Subway Women’s League Cup – Nottingham Forest have perhaps the toughest task of all, facing the Women’s Super League leaders Manchester City.
What’s more, it’s a City team coming off the back of a big win against their local rivals Manchester United.
But Forest captain Georgia Brougham says her team are ready to host the WSL big guns – and are focused on the chance of progressing to the knockout stages of the cup.
“We’re really excited,” she told SheKicks.net. “Obviously, it’s a big opportunity for us and there’s a quarter-final on the line, so one that we’ll be ready for.”
City are currently top of Group A, with a win and a loss – but Forest, in second place, have exactly the same record, just with a goal difference of +1 compared to City’s +2.
Nottingham Forest, under head coach Carly Davies, added 15 new players to the squad this summer, so although it has taken a little while for the team to click, they currently sit fifth in WSL2, equal on points with fourth-placed Newcastle United.
“It’s a brand new team and a lot of new faces in the building, so it’s going to take a bit to gel, but I think we’re on the right path now and we’re on a journey and hopefully that can continue,” added Brougham.

“When there are a lot of new faces, you have to get used to playing with each other and bonding and it takes time, but we’re on the journey and we’re on a good path.”
And Brougham – who began her career with Manchester City – says her team are ready to step on to the pitch against the current best team in the country.
“We know that Man City are a top side, but equally we’re a good side and we’ll have a game plan and we will respect them, but we won’t fear them,” she said.
“We know they’ve got world-class strikers and on their day that they’re going to be tough to play against anybody.
“But we all individually need to be on our A-game this weekend and stop their threats.”
Nottingham Forest play Manchester City on Saturday, 22nd November.
