Florent Ghisolfi faces a £18.5 million call over Simon Adingra as Sunderland’s reset gathers pace.

Milan Aleksić has joined Partizan Belgrade on loan, while Nazariy Rusyn nears Karpaty Lviv. According to Sunderland Echo, AS Monaco have not taken up their option to buy Adingra after his January loan.

That move let Sunderland invest in Nilson Angulo, and the clause would have recouped a significant chunk of last summer’s fee to Brighton. Adingra contributed in Monaco, often at wing back, but lacked consistency.

Adingra is with Ivory Coast at the World Cup and missed a late chance against Germany. With one group game left, Ivory Coast are well placed, and a strong finish could lift his confidence and attract suitors.

Sunderland must judge whether he fits Régis Le Bris’s plans. His first months brought positives, including a goal in the 1-1 draw with Leeds. Demanding defensive roles looked ill-suited, and a more attacking finish could open a pre-season window.

Competition on the left is fierce, with Chemsdine Talbi progressing, Nilson Angulo impressing post-injury, and Romaine Mundle expected to be fit though he may depart.

New SCR rules heighten the stakes. The £18.5 million outlay on a five-year deal means a sale around £15 million would hurt in cash terms but be close to break-even under SCR, with cost already in 2025/26.

Bids must be weighed, and a loan could rebuild value if offers imply a loss, though another flat season is a risk.
