Valencia have been hovering near the lower reaches for weeks. Corberán’s side are outside the relegation places by one point.

Tribuna Deportiva reports that Goldman Sachs, the bank set to finance the club over the coming years, could activate a financial reserve clause within the next six matchdays.

Under the credit agreement, the relegation-risk reserve can be triggered at any time once three quarters of the season have been played and the men’s team sit in the bottom five.

If activated, it remains in place until the end of the campaign, either until safety is mathematically secured or for as long as the club are relegated.

The team’s results in the coming weeks will determine whether the mechanism comes into effect.
