Valencia are moving to finalise a deal to keep Argentine midfielder Guido Rodríguez, aiming to announce it once the last details are agreed. According to Superdeporte, a week of talks has advanced with the backing of CEO of Football Ron Gourlay and head coach Carlos Corberán.
Despite months of noise and fan pessimism, the club felt agreement was close and that its effort would not be wasted. Days on, the holding midfielder’s continuity is closer than ever.
Rodríguez is seen as a strategic pillar for 26/27 thanks to his leadership, experience and knowledge of La Liga and Valencia’s dressing room. The plan is to build around him after a second half in which Valencia were third by points, behind Barcelona and Real Madrid.
His signing would also balance the early ‘bets’. Valencia opened the 26/27 window with three interesting additions who have not played in major leagues, Justin de Haas, Aliou Dieng and Ryunosuke Sato, pending official confirmation.
Gourlay has made a significant financial push to raise competitiveness and meet the coach’s wish, after an encouraging start that did not match the club’s internal European aims. It is the moment for key signings, and Guido is one, perhaps the most important.
Valencia also value keeping Stole Dimitrievski, who won Corberán’s trust, and they have exercised the purchase option in his contract. There was no Plan B for midfield, and the player has now given his yes, pending paperwork.
