Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink has pinpointed four positions Leeds United should target this summer, with captain Ethan Ampadu already committed until 2030.
"Yeah, they did exceptionally well. I think they need more quality in depth," said Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink. "Dominic Calvert-Lewin did magnificently well upfront, but I think they need right and left wingers who can really deliver." He was speaking to 10bet.
"Maybe a little bit more power in midfield, too. And a goalkeeper - the goalkeeper they took from France [Lucas Perri] didn’t really work out. Karl Darlow took over and did exceptionally well, but I think they need to strengthen permanently in that area."
Leeds have already confirmed what could be their most important move, a new four-year contract for Ethan Ampadu running to 2030, extending a 2027 deal that included a 12-month option. The captain was named Player of the Year and Players’ Player last month.
"Yeah, well, he's the captain. Very important, very good. He's a proper leader. He can play centre-half, he can play in midfield. Yeah, very smooth business. Very well done. Very important."
Talks are ongoing over possible extensions for Karl Darlow, Alex Cairns and Sam Byram, who are all due to become free agents this summer. Illan Meslier will leave the club.
Leeds expect fewer signings but of higher quality, with difference-makers in attack still required and a right wing or No.10 profile remaining a need after missing out on Harry Wilson last summer. The window opens on Monday, 15 June, and most business is expected after the 2026 World Cup, which ends in mid-July.
