Leeds United can start strengthening Daniel Farke’s squad on Monday, when the summer window opens. Former striker Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink has pinpointed four positions to address as the club look to build on last season’s 14th-placed Premier League finish.
“Yeah, they did exceptionally well. I think they need more quality in depth. Dominic Calvert-Lewin did magnificently well upfront, but I think they need right and left wingers who can really deliver.” He told 10bet.
“Maybe a little bit more power in midfield, too. And a goalkeeper - the goalkeeper they took from France [Lucas Perri] didn’t really work out. Karl Darlow took over and did exceptionally well, but I think they need to strengthen permanently in that area.”
Leeds also want a right wing or No.10 profile after missing out on Harry Wilson last summer, and this window is expected to be quieter in numbers.
Leeds have confirmed what could be their most important move, with captain Ethan Ampadu signing a new four-year deal to 2030. His previous contract ran to 2027 with a 12-month option, but the club secured a longer commitment. He was voted Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year last month.
“Yeah, well, he's the captain. Very important, very good. He's a proper leader. He can play centre-half, he can play in midfield. Yeah, very smooth business. Very well done. Very important.”
Talks are ongoing with Karl Darlow, Alex Cairns and Sam Byram over possible extensions before they become free agents this summer, while Illan Meslier will leave. Leeds are expected to complete the bulk of their recruitment after the 2026 World Cup, which ends in mid-July.
