So, the Foxes are in a precarious position, and the importance of survival was outlined in the latest accounts released by the club, which showed a loss in excess of £70m.

Whilst it has been said the club are confident they will not be hit with another sanction for breaching financial rules, it’s clear that they can’t continue operating in this way.

Therefore, reports have explained that Leicester will revert to their previous approach of selling one key player each summer in order to help balance the books, with Abdul Fatawu expected to depart the East Midlands outfit, even if they do stay up.

Leicester City set £20m asking price for Abdul Fatawu

The Ghana international has enjoyed a very impressive individual campaign despite Leicester’s struggles, scoring nine goals and registering seven assists.

So, interest is expected in the 22-year-old this summer, and FLW has exclusively revealed that Wolves are targeting the winger as Rob Edwards looks to build a team that can bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt ahead of their inevitable relegation.

Elsewhere, Sunderland were thought to have made an offer for Fatawu last summer, and Everton are also tracking the player, so he is unlikely to be short of admirers.

Fatawu is undoubtedly Leicester’s prized asset right now, and journalist Alan Nixon has claimed they could be ready to sanction a sale for £20m this summer, whichever division the club is in.

He stated that whilst Fatawu has a £30m buy-out clause as part of his contract, Leicester’s position means they will be ready to sell at a lower price.

Leicester City must be prepared for huge summer transfer window

Leicester’s financial situation means buying clubs will try to take advantage of that in the summer, so it won’t come as a surprise that they may not be willing to pay £30m for Fatawu.

Obviously, if the Foxes are relegated to League One, it’s only going to make it harder for the club to get £20m. That might not be what Leicester fans want to hear, but that’s the reality of their position right now.

Sadly, there aren’t many other assets in the Leicester squad that will command such a fee, so it’s inevitable that Fatawu will depart ahead of next season.

It seems evident the club are going to have a massive task on their hands in reshaping the squad, and everything will become more difficult if they do go down.

So, the immediate concern for all connected to Leicester is keeping the team in the division, and then the hard work will really start for the hierarchy, as they need to appoint a permanent new manager, reduce the wage bill, and oversee a massive transfer window.

Fatawu will be determined to end the season on a high as he looks to help Leicester stay up, and it will then be interesting to see where he ends up and what sort of fee the club will receive for someone that most would see as their best player.
