RB Leipzig are preparing a change in goal next season, with Maarten Vandevoordt poised to become first choice.
Bild reports that the Belgian will be promoted this summer, while long-serving Peter Gulácsi is expected to step aside after more than a decade as starter.
Gulácsi has been a mainstay since 2015, making over 350 appearances and underpinning Leipzig’s rise at home and in Europe. Now 35, he appears set for a planned transition.
Vandevoordt, signed in summer 2024 as the long-term successor, is regarded as the future of the position. The club are ready to hand him full responsibility from the upcoming campaign.
Gulácsi is not expected to leave. He is close to extending his deal until 2027 on reduced terms, taking a back-up and mentoring role for Vandevoordt. Talks are at an advanced stage, with an announcement anticipated in the coming weeks.
Third-choice Leopold Zingerle is also set to extend until 2028, providing further stability in the department. With the hierarchy clarified, Leipzig appear to have mapped out their goalkeeping plans for the seasons ahead.
