Memphis avoids STJD punishment over phone use | OneFootball

Memphis Depay will not be sanctioned for using his mobile phone on the bench during Corinthians’ Campeonato Brasileiro match against Flamengo at Neo Química Arena, after a hearing at the STJD on Thursday.

According to Globo.com, the 32-year-old was cited under article 191 of the CBJD for failing to comply with regulations, and a R$ 1,000 fine was later converted into a warning.

He said he used the device to liaise with Netherlands medical staff and to report a right thigh injury sustained in the second half.

An initial charge under article 258, covering conduct contrary to sporting discipline or ethics, was dismissed by the auditors. That article carried a possible suspension of one to six matches and a proportional fine.

Corinthians were fined R$ 54,000 for two separate breaches, article 206 for a four minute delay to the second half restart and article 213 for disorder and objects being thrown onto the pitch.
