New Middlesbrough signing Will Lankshear has outlined his dream of reaching the Premier League with the club after joining from Tottenham.

Middlesbrough will hope to push for promotion under Kim Hellberg this season after the play-off final heartbreak they suffered against Hull in May.

The Swedish head coach did a fine job following his appointment at the Riverside Stadium, but Boro ultimately came up short at Wembley.

That was always going to have a knock-on effect going into the window, and star man Hayden Hackney has already departed, securing a move to Everton.

However, that has seriously boosted Boro’s budget this summer, whilst they have also benefited from a big sell-on windfall after Morgan Rogers moved to Chelsea from Aston Villa.

The England youth international scored 11 goals for Oxford as they were relegated from the Championship last season, so there is an expectation that he could flourish in Hellberg’s system.

And, speaking to the club’s media, Lankshear made it clear that he is delighted to make the move, as he outlined his ambition to help take Middlesbrough back to the top flight.

That’s no surprise, as the Teesside outfit were very good last season, but they simply lacked a clinical striker that could put the ball in the net on a regular basis.

Obviously, Hellberg and Middlesbrough hope that Lankshear will be that man, and whilst it’s a big responsibility for the 21-year-old, he certainly has the talent to deliver on that.

The former West Brom loanee has a good physical profile, he is smart with his movement, and he can score different types of goals.

At 21, Lankshear is the long-term solution for Middlesbrough, but there will be a confidence that he is capable of making an instant impact, and that’s what the player will want to do as well.

After a slow start to the window, which saw Dael Fry depart as well as Hackney, Boro fans were hoping to see some major incomings, and there is still a need for more high-level recruits to follow Lankshear through the door.
