Monaco confirmed on Monday evening that Wout Faes and Simon Adingra will depart when their loans end on 30 June, the club said in a statement. The options to buy the pair were not exercised.
The pair arrived in January on temporary deals from Leicester and Sunderland to bolster a squad hit by injuries and poor results. Both featured regularly in the second half of the season.
Faes became a near ever-present in defence, making 16 appearances with 15 starts. Adingra also played 16 times, starting 11, most often at left wing-back.
Their performances appeared to impress the Monaco hierarchy, who had considered keeping them beyond their loans. The likelihood of triggering the clauses had been very low, set at seven point five million euros for Faes and 17 million euros for Adingra, payable to Leicester and Sunderland respectively.
Alternative solutions were explored, including fresh loans, particularly for Faes as Leicester have dropped into England's third tier. Renegotiating a lower fee was also on the table.
For Adingra, contracted to the Black Cats until 2030, 17 million euros was considered too high, especially as Monaco paid a one million euro loan fee. The club thanked both players on its social media channels.
