According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, José Mourinho is reshaping Real Madrid’s squad, targeting a defensive rebuild and a free move for Bernardo Silva.

Dani Carvajal and David Alaba are out of contract, with others including Raúl Asencio, Dani Ceballos and Eduardo Camavinga. Franco Mastantuono and Gonzalo García are likely to leave on loan or with buy-back options.

He wants reinforcements at right-back, centre-back and left-back. Interest in Ibrahima Konaté has been revived as a free signing, Denzel Dumfries’ 20 million clause is considered viable, while Riccardo Calafiori will not leave Arsenal and Josko Gvardiol is too costly.

Midfield pursuits have stalled. Joao Neves was the marquee aim but PSG will not sell him or Vitinha, and a move for Michael Olise was rebuffed by Bayern. Florentino Pérez even sent a feeler to Atlético for Julián Álvarez to honour a 150 million pledge, expecting a no.

The breakthrough is Bernardo Silva. A late call from Mourinho overturned his planned Atlético switch, where he had been lined up to replace Antoine Griezmann before a move to Orlando.

Silva will sign a four-year deal with a signing bonus higher than Atlético’s.
