According to PaponaColina, Vasco da Gama could pivot to Juninho Capixaba at left back as interest in Lucas Piton intensifies.
The plan is to secure a ready option who could start immediately if Piton departs, or raise competition rather than simply add depth.
Talks for the initial plan A, Cuiabano, have faltered amid Nottingham Forest’s stance. Juninho Capixaba is viewed as an ideal opportunity, and he is believed to have welcomed the approach as a route back to prominence at a club with a large fanbase. Internal approval of his profile for 2026 was described as unanimous across the board and coaching staff.
The 28-year-old came through Bahia and has top-flight experience with Corinthians, Grêmio and Fortaleza before becoming a key figure at Red Bull Bragantino. His background in high-pressure clubs is seen as a useful asset at Vasco.
Tactically he aligns with the style of Fernando Diniz, offering attacking thrust, the ability to step inside to build play, operate as a wing back in a back five or push into midfield. His versatility, close control and combination play could add intensity and a higher-quality pass, addressing an identified need for the season.
