Just when everything was going well for Real Madrid, it appears the club have been hit with an injury to one of the team’s most important defenders in Eder Militao.

During Real Madrid’s game against Atletico Madrid, where the Los Blancos had to suffer their first defeat of the season, the Brazilian centre-back suffered a painful blow to his left ankle.

The incident occurred just after the third minute mark when Militao blocked a shot from Sorloth. In the follow-through, the Atletico forward accidentally kicked Militao’s ankle with force.

The defender looked in visible discomfort and while he initially managed to carry on after receiving treatment, he was clearly in pain and couldn’t continue beyond the first-half.

At the start of the second half, Real Madrid decided to bring in Raul Asencio, sparking more concerns among fans that the Brazilian might have taken a serious injury.

Militao doubtful for Almaty game

According to Diario AS, the team is scheduled to travel to Almaty tomorrow morning for their upcoming Champions League clash, and Militao is now a serious doubt for the trip.

The next several hours will be key in assessing the severity of the ankle contusion and whether the defender can board the plane. After all, he was seen limping back to the locker room after the game.

Militao had recently been rested against Levante, but had featured in every almost every match, becoming indispensable in the heart of Madrid’s defence alongside new signing Dean Huijsen.

His potential absence now could serve as a serious blow for Real Madrid, especially considering the fact that David Alaba has struggled with fitness while Raul Asencio has been not able to perform well under Alonso.

With Antonio Rudiger also unavailable until December, Real Madrid will hope that Militao’s issue is nothing serious.

However, should Militao pick up a long-term injury yet again, one would expect Real Madrid to potentially push for a January move for top target Ibrahima Konate.
