Real Madrid began their 2025/26 La Liga campaign on Tuesday night with a narrow 1-0 win over CA Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Los Blancos had to rely on a controversial penalty, that Kylian Mbappe tucked away, to get three points from their opening game of the new campaign under new manager Xabi Alonso.
Now, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid remain reluctant to sign a new creative midfielder despite the obvious need for such a profile in the squad.
Indeed, the match against Osasuna once again highlighted a glaring weakness: the absence of a creative midfielder. A Toni Kroos or Luka Modric-type figure capable of unlocking compact defences is missing.
Against the Rojillos, Los Blancos once more displayed their limitations in this department. Despite the club’s hope that Arda Guler might eventually grow into that role, the young Turk still has a long way to go before becoming that kind of orchestrator.

Manager Alonso identified this shortcoming from the very start and relayed it directly to the club’s hierarchy.
Manchester City superstar Rodri emerged as the ideal candidate, but the executives at Valdebebas never pursued the deal as they have has serious doubts about the midfielder’s physical condition after spending almost a year out injured.
Other profiles have been assessed, and the scouting department has studied several alternatives. However, the conclusion within Real Madrid remains the same: no available option on the market would improve upon the current squad members.
As a result, everything suggests that no signings will be made and Alonso will have to make do with the resources already at his disposal, even if that means continuing without the creative midfielder he has been demanding since his arrival.
