Real Madrid are actively scouring the market for a new midfielder heading into the summer transfer window.
The Merengues are looking both at established big-name players as well as up-and-coming young talents with potential to grow into superstars.
One of the players that is of interest for Real Madrid currently happens to be Manchester City and Spain midfield mainstay Rodri.
The 29-year-old midfield general happens to be the ideal fit for the profile that Los Blancos are looking for, and the fact that his contract expires in 2027 makes him an enticing prospect.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid ‘will not do anything crazy’ to sign Rodri from Manchester City in the summer transfer window.
It is true that the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner is a player that the Spanish giants admire and have internally discussed him as a market opportunity for the summer.

But Real Madrid will not spend over-the-top crazy money to sign the Manchester City superstar, given his contract situation. Any move will thus depend on the fee that the midfielder commands.
Manchester City, for their part, are working hard to tie down the future of their key midfielder. Indeed, the Cityzens have already offered a new contract with a significant salary to the Spaniard as they believe he is returning to his best version after his ACL injury.
So, everything now depends on Rodri and what he decides to do with his future. If he opts to sign a new deal, it would definitively close the doors on any move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
If he decides not to renew, Real Madrid will be there, but only if they deem the operation to be financially sensible. If not, they could opt to wait until 2027, when he will become a free agent.
