Atletico Madrid stalwart Jose Maria Gimenez will reportedly reassess his options after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Inter Milan keen to lure him to Italy.
According to FCInterNews, Gimenez’s agent views the Nerazzurri as a potentially appealing destination if his client decides to leave Spain.
Widely regarded as one of the toughest defenders in Europe’s top-five leagues, Gimenez has been Atletico’s defensive mainstay for years.
Indeed, the 31-year-old has been part of Diego Simeone’s era since the beginning.
Jose Maria Gimenez joined Los Colchoneros from Danubio in 2013, making 380 appearances for the club.
However, he has been in and out of Simeone’s starting lineup this season.
Gimenez’s contract at the Metropolitano Stadium runs until 2028, but he could cut ties with Atletico Madrid in the coming months.
Indeed, the Uruguayan star is reluctant to play second fiddle to anyone and could request a transfer in the summer.
Meanwhile, Inter are ready to offer Gimenez an escape route from La Liga, particularly now that they could lose Alessandro Bastoni.
Heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, the 26-year-old is reportedly considering leaving San Siro after nine years.
