Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim continues to divide opinion among fans and former players following a turbulent time at the Theatre of Dreams.

The 2-0 win over Sunderland at home last weekend has eased the pressure on the Portuguese, but his record is hardly pleasing to the eye.

Amorim has registered just 20 wins from his 50 games in charge of the Premier League giants, losing 18 others so far.

United minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently suggested that the former Sporting manager will be given three seasons to get his act together at Old Trafford. However, speculation remains rife about Amorim’s future.

United legends want Diego Simeone

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has recently been mentioned as an option to replace Amorim at United, along with Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola. However, United legends Roy Keane and Gary Neville believe Diego Simeone could be a fine choice to take over at the Theatre of Dreams.

Speaking on The Overlap, Keane added that the Atletico Madrid manager would add good havoc to the Red Devils.

“I’ve said it for years. I’d like to see, I’d like Atletico Madrid’s Simeone [to] go in there. I’d like to see him go in there,” said Keane.

“I know his mate’s gone to Arsenal [Andrea Berta], but I think he would just create a havoc, but good havoc. I think he’d rock up to that place and say, ‘This is how you do things.’ No guarantee, but I just like to see his personality, even his track record.”

Neville agreed with his former teammate, stating: “I think I’d go with that. I’d go with Simeone.”

Keane added: “People might think styles of football, they scored five against Real Madrid last weekend. He doesn’t like his teams giving up too many goals or chances, but they can play a bit and fight.

“At Liverpool a few weeks ago… the team aren’t as great as few years ago, but they still had fighting spirit. He’s on the sideline, he got sent off that night, I’d like a big personality.”

The former Ireland international, however, signed off on a cheeky note, stating: “I’d still say give the man [Amorim] a chance, absolutely. Another week.”

Simeone’s stellar record at the Metropolitano

Diego Simeone took charge at the Metropolitano Stadium in 2011. He has since won the LaLiga and the Europa League twice, while also getting his hands on the Copa del Rey, the Supercopa de Espana and the UEFA Super Cup.

The fiery Argentine has won 442 of 749 games in charge, registering a 59.01% win ratio. Amorim, meanwhile, won 71% of his games with Sporting, but that number has dropped to 40% since moving to the Theatre of Dreams.

The Red Devils have shown signs of improvement this season, and have won now three consecutive games at Old Trafford. United next face Liverpool at Anfield on 19 October, and a win on Merseyside would certainly help Amorim’s cause.
