Sky Sports report that Luis Guilherme wants to remain at West Ham and “fight for his position”, despite uncertainty surrounding his short term future. The 19 year old winger arrived in June 2024 for £25m with long term development in mind, and there is no indication from the player that he wants to walk away from that challenge.

Guilherme has made five appearances this season, three of them under Nuno Espirito Santo, but he has not featured in West Ham’s last three matchday squads. Reports ahead of the January window suggested he could be allowed to leave, yet Sky Sports News understands the player is determined to stay and compete.

West Ham’s interest in Fulham winger Adama Traore highlights that a new wide player remains a priority. That context adds pressure on Guilherme, but also clarity. He is aware competition will increase, and his response is to push harder rather than seek an exit.

Guilherme’s stance is encouraging. Fans have grown tired of young signings arriving with promise only to disappear quietly. Hearing that a 19 year old wants to fight for his place, rather than look for an easy route out, matters.
There is realism among supporters. Guilherme has looked raw when he has played, and it is no surprise that he has slipped out of recent squads. The Premier League is unforgiving, and adaptation takes time. That said, the £25m fee inevitably raised expectations, and fans want clearer signs of progress.
The reported interest in Adama Traore will divide opinion. Experience and pace can help immediately, but many supporters worry it blocks Guilherme’s pathway. Ideally, West Ham strike a balance, add depth without closing the door on development.
Most fans will back Guilherme if the club does too. Give him minutes in cups, manage him carefully, and judge him over time. His attitude suggests he understands the challenge, and that is a foundation worth supporting.
