The Sky Blues ended a 25-year absence from the top flight on their way to winning the Championship title.

Frank Lampard’s side finished 11 points clear of the Tractor Boys in second, who earned their place back in the first tier at the first attempt.

The Suffolk outfit were relegated 12 months ago, but have returned immediately by coming one point ahead of Millwall in third.

The pair have both been linked with a potential move for Brighton’s Solly March, who is set to become a free agent in the summer.

Here we use estimated figures from Capology to see what the 31-year-old earned with the Seagulls as the two newly-promoted sides circle…

Solly March’s Brighton wages

March initially joined Brighton in 2013 from non-league side Lewes, and he made 300 appearances for the club over the last 13 years.

However, the 30-minute cameo against Manchester United last weekend is now set to make the end of his time with the Seagulls.

The winger was a key figure for the Premier League side in the past, but he played just four times this season, with injuries hampering him in recent campaigns.

March’s contract is set to expire in June, which will make him a free agent as the likes of Ipswich and Coventry circle.

The 31-year-old is currently receiving £50,000 per week from Brighton ahead of his exit next month, making him as well paid as Jan Paul van Hecke.

The highest paid member of Fabian Hurzeler’s squad is Pascal Groß, who returned to the club in January from Borussia Dortmund on a deal worth £90,000 per week.

Other high earners include Ferdi Kadioglu and Lewis Dunk, with the duo receiving £87,500 and £85,000 per week, respectively.

Ipswich Town and Coventry City’s highest earners

Ipswich had a higher wage bill than Coventry in the Championship last year, with the Tractor Boys paying their squad £569,500 per week.

Meanwhile, Lampard’s squad earned £328,000 per week on their way to clinching top spot in the table.

The highest paid members of McKenna’s side are Dara O’Shea and Leif Davis, with the pair receiving £35,000-a-week.

Other highly paid players at Portman Road include Azor Matusiwa and Ben Johnson, who are both on £30,000 per week, while Ashley Young received the same prior to his retirement.

To pay March close to the £50,000 per week salary he earned at Brighton, Ipswich will have to make him their newest highest earner, but it shouldn’t be a massive stretch for the club.

However, Coventry’s top earners are Luke Woolfenden, Haji Wright, Ellis Simms and Matt Grimes, with the quartet all receiving £25,000 per week.

In order to meet March’s current salary, the Sky Blues will have to double the figure of their highest paid players, which may prove more challenging.

But Coventry and Ipswich also face competition from the likes of Everton, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Fulham in the race for his signature.
