Sunderland have cancelled a batch of away tickets for Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby at Newcastle United after a large-scale breach of rules, with 65 returned to sale from 12pm today, the club said in a statement.

The move followed a review that identified a supporter misusing their allocation, leading to those purchases being voided and placed back on sale.

The club reiterated its commitment to ensuring away allocations are used by genuine supporters and to safeguarding the integrity of its allocation process.

Fans were reminded that breaking ticket terms may lead to disciplinary action, including cancellations and possible suspension from attending matches at the Stadium of Light.

The extra seats are expected to be in high demand as Black Cats supporters plan their trip to St James’ Park on Sunday. Sunderland won the reverse fixture at the Stadium of Light 1-0 earlier this season, the decisive moment recorded as a Woltemade own goal.
