Switzerland coach Mert Yakin believes that Menuel Akanji is “match-fit” for Inter Milan, after regularly starting for Man City.

The coach spoke about the 30-year-old after his move to the Nerazzurri at the end of the summer transfer window, via FCInterNews.

Inter Milan signed defender Manuel Akanji from Manchester City on deadline day.

The Nerazzurri also loaned defender Benjamin Pavard to Marseille in the final hours of the transfer window. Therefore, Akanji was the player they identified as a replacement for the Frenchman.

Akanji certainly arrives with the same kind of pedigree as Pavard.

The Swiss international has spent the last three years with Manchester City. He has won the Premier League title twice, and also helped the Cityzens to the Treble in his first season at the club.

Furthermore, Akanji had previously played in the Champions League for the likes of Basel and Borussia Dortmund.

Switzerland coach Mert Yakin commented that “Usually, players have a few matches under their belt.”

“What’s happened with Manuel Akanji is a bit unfortunate,” he said, in terms of the 30-year-old’s playing time.

“Particularly considering that he was actually a regular stareter for Manchester City.”

“But he hasn’t lost his match-fitness,” Yakin assured.

“I’m happy that he and Embolo are ready to play. And that they’ve had a good preseason.”
