The Tribunal Arbitral del Deporte, TAS, has granted Facundo Garcés a precautionary stay of his 12-month ineligibility, the club said in a statement. The decision allows the Alavés defender to resume his professional activity immediately.
The Argentine was banned in September from all football-related activity over an alleged falsification of documents claiming his grandfather was born in Malaysia. Those papers had made him eligible for selection in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
The measure enables Garcés to work as normal while the case is resolved, and he will rejoin the squad. He was one of Coudet’s mainstays last season.
Alavés face Espanyol on Friday, then host Real Sociedad in the Copa at Mendizorrotza next Wednesday.
His fitness is uncertain, which will determine whether he features in either game. The development offers Coudet a lift for a defence in which Pacheco has been covering. Sunday’s win over Betis has already boosted morale.
