Tolu Arokodare completes Wolves exit as Ajax land striker with buy option | OneFootball

Tolu Arokodare has joined Ajax from Wolves on a season-long loan that includes an option to buy next summer. The Nigeria forward admitted he had been impatient to get the move agreed.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the option is around £17million, with Ajax paying a £1million loan fee and covering his 2026/27 wages, plus bonuses linked to European qualification. Ajax finished fifth last season and could reach the Europa Conference League via the play-offs.

“I kept putting the pressure on my agent and finally it happened. I am happy, I can’t wait to start.” He initially thought the approach was a joke and called Ajax one of Europe’s biggest clubs, saying he wants to help the team.

Wolves signed Arokodare for almost £24million from Genk last summer. He scored six goals in 38 appearances across the campaign.

Club and player had been working on an exit this summer, with Arokodare initially left out of the Portugal training camp. He later flew out for one session to cover Adam Armstrong’s calf problem but did not face Estoril, watching from the stands.

Back at Compton, he was involved in a training ground incident and missed friendlies against Maidenhead and Real Sociedad. He then posted on social media that some media reports were inaccurate, without specifying which details.

Fiorentina and Trabzonspor were among clubs to have bids rejected. Trabzonspor later had an offer accepted by Wolves, but Arokodare turned it down as he preferred Italy, and he has instead secured a loan switch to Ajax.
