Tolu Arokodare completes Wolves exit as Ajax land striker with buy option | OneFootball

Tolu Arokodare has joined Ajax from Wolves on a season-long loan that includes an option to buy next summer for around £17 million.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Ajax will cover his full wages for 2026/27 and pay Wolves a loan fee of about one million pounds, with further bonuses tied to European qualification. Ajax finished fifth in the Eredivisie last season and will enter the Conference League play-offs.

The Nigeria international admitted he had been impatient to complete the move, saying he pushed his agent to get it done and is eager to start. He initially thought talk of Ajax was a joke, but described them as one of Europe’s biggest clubs and wants to help the team.

Club and player had been working on an exit this summer, with Arokodare initially left out of Wolves’ Portugal camp. He was later flown out for one session to cover Adam Armstrong’s calf issue, then watched the behind-closed-doors match against Estoril from the stands.

After returning to Compton, a training session was cancelled when he refused to leave the first-team group, and extra security was brought in. He then missed friendlies against Maidenhead and Real Sociedad, later posting on social media that some media reports were inaccurate without specifying which.

Fiorentina and Trabzonspor showed interest, with bids rejected before Trabzonspor had an offer accepted, but Arokodare turned that move down as he preferred Italy. He has instead secured a loan switch to Ajax.

Wolves signed Arokodare from Genk last summer for almost £24 million and he scored six goals in 38 appearances.
