Valencia’s LaLiga opener against Real Betis at Mestalla has been postponed, so Carlos Corberán’s side will start against Celta at home.
According to Superdeporte, Betis requested the delay under regulations that allow postponement when a club has a player in the World Cup semi-finals, with Giovani Lo Celso involved for Argentina. The move also suits Betis competitively, giving Manuel Pellegrini a few extra days to work with players who lacked a normal pre-season.
Valencia will face Celta at Mestalla on Saturday 22 August at 19:30. The rescheduled Betis fixture follows on Tuesday 25 August at 21:00, then Valencia visit Deportivo de la Coruña on Sunday 30 August at 19:30.
Elsewhere, the first-round meetings of Real Madrid against Real Sociedad and Barcelona against Athletic Club have also been pushed back.
Levante begin their league campaign against Espanyol on Sunday 16 August. Corberán will begin his second pre-season with Valencia.
