Max Eberl has established himself at FC Bayern. 52-year-old Eberl is held in high regard both in sporting and structural terms – but a contract extension at Säbener Straße is not yet a concrete issue
Since taking office, Eberl has been working together with Christoph Freund and Nils Schmadtke on the strategic realignment of the record champions. The sporting development under Vincent Kompany, the clear squad line and the noticeable calm at the club currently speak in favour of those responsible. The internal assessment of the management team is correspondingly positive
According to information from Sky, Eberl can very well imagine staying at FC Bayern beyond his current contract term, which runs until 30 June 2027. An extension is therefore considered realistic – but not in the short term. The reason for this lies in the club’s internal statutes, which clearly stipulate the time frame
The supervisory board responsible for Eberl’s contract may only officially discuss a possible extension from 1 July this year. Formal talks are not planned before then, even if an exchange is already taking place behind the scenes. Concrete negotiations are therefore not expected until the second half of the year at the earliest

Nevertheless, the signs point to continuity. Eberl enjoys the support of the club’s management, as do his closest colleagues. Should the sporting director himself extend his contract, he would play a key role in deciding the future of Christoph Freund, whose contract also runs until 2027. Freund, in turn, has an influence on Nils Schmadtke, whose contract expires in September. The course set at Säbener Straße is therefore closely linked
Eberl himself is his usual reflective self. He recently stressed to Sky that the supervisory board would ultimately decide his future. He currently sees his own role as clearly defined: working in a focused manner, taking responsibility and continuing on the path he has chosen. He says that his work at FC Bayern is enjoyable, intensive, but also characterised by many positive moments
There has been no contact from the supervisory board so far, Eberl made clear. Nevertheless, there is no pressure in Munich. On the contrary, everything indicates that both sides are taking their time – and this is currently the greatest strength of this constellation.
