Wolves supporters could be set for shorter away days next season, with their Championship status now confirmed. ExpressAndStar.com reports that a cluster of nearby fixtures could await as the club prepares for life back in the second tier.
Top of the list is West Bromwich Albion, with The Hawthorns barely seven miles from Molineux. Provided Albion avoid relegation to League One, it would be the clubs’ first league meeting in front of supporters since 2012.
Not far behind is Birmingham City. At around 12 miles away, the St Andrew’s trip offers another convenient away day, with thousands of Wolves fans expected to head down the A41.
A little further, Stoke City’s bet365 Stadium is roughly 45 miles up the M6, a ground Wolves followers remember fondly.
Trips to Derby County and Lincoln City would complete the five shortest journeys, at roughly 50 and 80 miles respectively. If Nottingham Forest join Wolves in the relegation places, that would add another relatively short hop from west to east. After seasons of longer Premier League travel, derby days, lower costs and packed away ends could be back on the agenda.
