Wolves supporters have reacted with shock and disappointment to the sudden dismissal of head coach Rob Edwards on Thursday morning.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, Edwards was appointed in November last year and oversaw 30 matches in all competitions, losing 16.
He left a Championship promotion push with Middlesbrough to replace the sacked Vitor Pereira. Edwards played 100 times for Wolves between 2004 and 2008 and later coached in the academy.
Figures close to the club called the decision shocking, noting his role in moves for Kieran Trippier and former striker Raul Jimenez. The club looks set to appoint Cesar Peixoto as his replacement.
Fans across Wolverhampton city centre questioned the strategy. Dan Warren, 33, from Oxley and a former leading figure in the Wolves Supporters Trust, said he had expected Edwards to be given next season given the likelihood of relegation and was concerned about the long-term direction after just six months with a squad not his own.
Toni Clayton, 35, from Dunstall, said she was shocked, adding that the Championship felt like a chance for a reset, possibly with Raul returning. She felt it was harsh to judge after only half a season.
Kevin Bourne, 51, of Wednesfield, felt Edwards was not given enough time, pointing out he arrived in November and had improved performances. He also expressed uncertainty about the incoming head coach.
Some had only just heard the news, including William Miles, 66, from Heath Town. Others welcomed the change, with Bill Agar, 62, from Pennfields, arguing Edwards had not done enough and suggesting a return for Nuno or even Steve Bull, while acknowledging the demands of the role.
