Chad secured a 1-1 draw against Ghana on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Deby Itno in N'Djamena. The Black Stars took the lead through Jordan Ayew (17’), but Célestin Ecua struck in the dying moments to deny the group leaders all three points.

This was Ghana’s first draw in the qualifiers, following five wins and one defeat. Facing the Sao in the matchday 7 clash, the Black Stars quickly asserted their dominance against a Chad side determined to defend their home turf. Chris Hughton’s men capitalized on their early control in the 17th minute, as Jordan Ayew converted a well-worked team move after a precise assist from Mohammed Kudus.

Ghana continued to press throughout the first half, dominating possession but unable to extend their lead. The hosts remained compact in defense, looking to threaten on the counter but rarely troubling the Ghanaian backline.

After the break, Chad came out transformed. Under the guidance of Alain Djeumfa, the team raised their intensity, posing more problems for the opposition. Tactical changes during the match paid dividends, as the introduction of fresh legs injected new energy into Chad’s play.

Just when the match seemed settled, Chad pulled off a stunning equalizer. In the 89th minute, Celestin Ecua latched onto a cross from Emmanuel Mbangossoum to catch the Ghanaian defense off guard and level the score against all odds. The Olympique Stadium erupted in jubilation at this historic goal. Ghana pushed for a late winner, but three minutes of stoppage time were not enough.

Ghana remain top of Group I with 16 points, but this setback could impact the rest of their qualification campaign. For Chad, this first point of the campaign is a breath of fresh air and reignites the Sao’s hopes for the remainder of the qualifiers.
