Zimbabwe national team has been dealt with a major blow as Marshall Munetsi has officially been ruled out of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) later this month.

The former Orlando Pirates midfielder limped off the pitch against Nottingham Forrest last Wednesday as he appeared to have picked up a calf injury after entering the pitch as a substitute.

As a result, Munetsi was unavailable during Wolves' 4-1 battering at the hands of Manchester United at Molineux Stadium last night.

The injury will undoubtedly be a big blow for head coach Rob Edwards and the Old Gold, who look destined for relegation as they sit rock bottom with just two points from 15 games.

The Wolves boss confirmed Munetsi is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines stating: “It'll be weeks, I don't know how many at the moment, but I think at the moment it's looking like at least six weeks, I think,” Edwards said as quoted by Molineux news.

Munetsi will effectively miss the AFCON tournament set to be staged in Morocco and will commence on 21 December 2025 and run until 18 January 2026.

Zimbabwe coach Marian Marinica will have to swiftly pick a suitable replacement for the Warriors' vice captain, with all squads expected to be submitted by 11 December latest.

The Warriors are in Group B alongside neighbors South Africa, Angola and record seven-time African champions, the Pharaohs of Egypt, whom they face in their opening match on 22 December.
