It has been quite some time since FC Barcelona have had to go to the market with the priority aim of signing a new left-back. This has been the case mainly because their needs have been fulfilled by their own youth academy, which has provided the first team with some very good fullbacks.
Alejandro Balde is currently the starter for Hansi Flick, and last season, it was another quarry gem, Gerard Martin, who replaced him when he was injured or needed a rest.
This situation is not expected to change any time soon, as another highly promising left-back is coming up through the Barcelona academy, i.e., the 18-year-old defender Jofre Torrents.
Mundo Deportivo has provided a brief overview of the youngster that is already making a very strong case for a first-team position after having risen through the ranks since joining the Blaugrana club back in 2017.
Last May, he renewed his contract till 2028, and in the last season, made the jump from the U-19 team to Barcelona Atletic, playing 11 games for the latter.
He also had to miss around 2 months of action due to a muscle injury, and was also called up for the Spanish U-19 team that went on to reach the U-19 European Championship final in June.
Torrents is a modern fullback who stands out with his explosiveness, power, height of 1.85 meters, ball control, dribbling, decision making, and defensive concentration.
However, he still needs some time to develop physically, especially after he suffered a torn ACL while playing for the Spanish U-17 team in the Pinatar Arena Tournament back in September 2023. After spending a year on the sidelines, he returned to action in September 2024.
Keeping this history in view, Barcelona is implementing a special training plan for Jofre Torrents, which will be aimed at improving his endurance and strength.
