Goals from Jacob Rasmussen, Semih Şahin and Daniel Hanslik sealed a routine win for Torsten Lieberknecht’s side, who played against ten men for the majority of the contest.

Lautern took control from the outset, with Norman Bassette and Mërgim Berisha both looking lively and causing immediate problems for the Düsseldorf backline.

The visitors’ difficult start worsened in the 22nd minute when Sima Suso pulled back Bassette as he raced onto a through ball. The referee had little hesitation in issuing a straight red card for denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity, leaving Markus Anfang’s side with a mountain to climb.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Fortuna showed resilience before the break, withstanding sustained pressure from a relentless Kaiserslautern attack to keep the score goalless at half-time.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Düsseldorf camped deep and defending in numbers. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 62nd minute. After recycling a corner, Marlon Ritter delivered a cross from the edge of the area, and an unmarked Jacob Rasmussen rose highest to power a header beyond Florian Kastenmeier for 1-0.

Kaiserslautern continued to push and were rewarded again in the 76th minute. A swift counter down the left saw Mika Haas find Berisha, who intelligently laid the ball off to Semih Şahin. The midfielder then produced a superb strike from the edge of the area, drilling the ball into the bottom corner to double the lead.

Lieberknecht’s side added further gloss to the scoreline deep into stoppage time. Şahin turned provider, setting up Daniel Hanslik, who finished neatly from close range with the outside of his boot to wrap up a comprehensive 3-0 victory.

It marks a strong response from Kaiserslautern following their defeat last time out, although they remain in 7th place. For Düsseldorf, a third consecutive loss leaves them looking nervously over their shoulder, with the gap to the bottom three narrowing.
