A Multi-Million Project: Bayern Faces Massive Transfer Loss | OneFootball

The coming weeks will be a crucial test for Max Eberl. While FC Bayern has already completed its top transfer targets early on, the sales of several players are stalling. The Munich club faces significant financial losses, particularly with João Palhinha, Sacha Boey, and Bryan Zaragoza.

With Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, the record champions have already presented their most important new signings ahead of the World Cup. On the outgoing side, the summer transfer window has also been far from unsuccessful so far. Among others, Leon Goretzka, Raphael Guerreiro, Alexander Nübel, Noel Aseko, and Lovro Zvonarek have left the club.

However, three players continue to cause headaches for club officials.

Nearly 100 million euros tied up

João Palhinha and Sacha Boey have been training again under Vincent Kompany at Säbener Straße since the start of preseason. Bryan Zaragoza is currently working individually on his comeback after suffering from knee inflammation.

Together, these three players once cost FC Bayern around 97.5 million euros. Munich paid around 49.5 million euros to Fulham for Palhinha, Boey joined from Galatasaray for 30 million euros, and Zaragoza moved from Granada to Munich for a total of 18 million euros.

As things stand, however, the record champions are likely to have to write off a significant portion of these investments.

Palhinha remains the biggest problem area

The situation with João Palhinha is particularly complicated. According to information from Sport BILD, the Portuguese player has received financially attractive offers from Saudi Arabia and Turkey, but the midfielder is rejecting both options for athletic and family reasons. Instead, he apparently prefers a move back to his home country of Portugal to be closer to his two children.

Benfica and Sporting Lisbon are still considered potential suitors, but they are currently unable to meet Bayern’s asking price of around 25 million euros.

Aston Villa is therefore considered the most promising candidate. The Premier League club has considerable financial leeway following the multi-million sale of Morgan Rogers to Chelsea FC. Nevertheless, the English club is reportedly favoring a loan deal with an option to buy at this point.

No quick solution is in sight for Sacha Boey either. Although several Premier League clubs are reportedly showing interest, Bayern Munich is sticking to its asking price of around 15 million euros, according to BILD.

Meanwhile, Zaragoza would like to return to Spain if possible. Espanyol Barcelona and Sevilla FC are rumored to be interested. However, according to information from Sport BILD, concrete negotiations have not yet begun. One reason for this is reportedly the offensive player’s annual salary of around four million euros.

For sporting director Max Eberl, this remains one of the most important tasks of this summer’s transfer window. If the sporting director succeeds in selling at least a large portion of the trio at a profit, it would not only advance squad planning but also significantly increase FC Bayern’s financial flexibility. If the sales fail, however, the Munich club faces the prospect of substantial write-downs on an investment of nearly 100 million euros.
