Abdul Fatawu may have played his final Leicester City match, with Conor Coady saying the winger is ready for the Premier League and backing a top-flight move.
Fatawu is one of City’s most valuable assets and is almost certain to be sold this summer as the club look to cope with the financial impact of falling into the third tier. Sunderland, Everton, Fulham and Leeds have all been linked over the past 12 months.
“Fatawu at Leicester. I know Leicester have gone down and I know he’s had a bad second half of the season but I played with Abdul and he’s a very good player on his day. I know he was linked with certain clubs previously, so I would put him in that bracket.”
He was speaking to The Overlap.
That view comes despite the 22-year-old’s late-season dip. Under Gary Rowett, he registered one goal and no assists in the final 14 games, having scored eight and set up seven in his first 32. His 16 goal involvements still placed him in the Championship’s top 20 despite City’s relegation.
Fatawu may attract further interest if he has a strong World Cup. He is expected to start for Ghana against England, Panama and Croatia in North America.
He is not the only winger expected to leave. Jeremy Monga is drawing Premier League interest, while Stephy Mavididi could appeal to Championship clubs. Jake Evans will return from a Northampton loan as an option on the right flank after a few impressive League One outings.
