Ajax relaxed about stalled Marc-Andre ter Stegen deal – “Everyone knows” | OneFootball

Barcelona had hoped Marc-Andre ter Stegen would have left the club by now, but for now, his proposed move to Ajax remains on hold. An agreement between the two European giants has already been reached, although minor details are still to be resolved before the Eredivisie side are able to get their man.

Ajax’s move for ter Stegen has been driven by head coach Michel Sanchez, who managed the Germany international during the second half of last season at Girona. He will no doubt be frustrated by the hold-up, although he told the media at the weekend (via MD) that he is fully aware of what is happening regarding the matter.

“Everyone knows what is happening. Hopefully he can help us and soon we will be able to talk about him. Jordi Cruyff communicates with me daily about the possibilities available, about what is happening. We want to attract players who can help Ajax grow as a team. We want to make the right decisions, but the processes in the world of football are not simple. We have to go step by step.”

Frustratingly for Michel and Ajax, Barcelona have decided to include ter Stegen in their squad to travel to England for the upcoming friendly against Birmingham City. This would indicate that the deal still has some way to go before it is finalised, which is definitely not ideal for anyone involved – given that Hansi Flick is not counting on the veteran goalkeeper for the upcoming 2026-27 season.

It remains to be seen when ter Stegen’s move to Ajax becomes unblocked. In the meantime, he will continue to be involved in Barcelona’s pre-season plans, especially with Flick waiting for the return of his starting goalkeeper Joan Garcia after his 2026 World Cup exploits.
