Everton booked their place in the Carabao Cup fourth round with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Championship side Wolves at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

In a tight contest featuring few clear chances, both goalkeepers played their part. Wolves debutant Joao Virginia, returning to face his former club, produced an excellent one-handed save to deny Thierno Barry’s close-range header before half-time.

Wolves threatened after the break, with Adam Armstrong seeing his effort kept out by Jordan Pickford.

The decisive moment arrived with 10 minutes remaining. Tyler Dibling found substitute Charly Alcaraz, who brilliantly jinked past Toti before calmly curling the ball beyond Virginia for his first Everton goal in 13 months.
