Alfon González was the standout returnee in Sevilla’s group session on Thursday, two months after a fresh muscle setback halted his pre-season, according to as.com. A San Mamés inclusion might still come too soon and any decision will rest with Luis García Plaza.

The Albacete-born winger spent the second half of last season on loan at Villarreal. Since arriving at Nervión from Celta on a free last campaign, his progress has been blighted by two ankle sprains, then another muscle issue before heading to La Cerámica.

Aged 27 and under contract for two more seasons, he does not appear likely to leave again before the winter window closes. His pace, dribbling and shooting, underlined by strong numbers late in his Balaídos spell, could offer the blanquirrojos a fresh attacking option as the squad lacks that profile. The club will probably part with Swiss winger Rubén Vargas.

Vargas, with a move being negotiated with Olympiacos, skipped the group workout and went back inside after García Plaza had addressed the players. It was described as load management and, if he stays, he should train on Friday and then travel to San Mamés for the Athletic game.

Marcao remains the only injury absentee and did not train, and Kike Salas is suspended. That leaves just two fit centre-backs, Castrín and Sangante. Juan Iglesias and Carmona, both specialist right-backs, can also operate in central defence.
