Almada to decide future after World Cup as Flamengo wait | OneFootball

Flamengo are waiting for the World Cup to finish before moving for Thiago Almada, their priority target for the window opening on Monday, according to Globo.com. Almada will decide his next step after Argentina face Spain in Sunday's final.

The match kicks off at 16:00 Brasília time in New Jersey, United States, and recent line-ups suggest Almada is likely to start on the bench. He began the tournament as a starter, then from the last 16 has been used as a substitute, most recently in extra time against Switzerland.

Only after the World Cup will his representatives sit down with him to discuss options. Out of favour at Atlético de Madrid, he wants to leave and, with few European offers so far, is now weighing a return to South America.

Flamengo and River Plate have submitted proposals. River offered 20 million euros for 50 percent of his economic rights, while Flamengo are confident their relations with the Spanish club, and a more appealing payment structure with fewer instalments, can help.

The key obstacle would be a new approach from Europe. A year ago Atlético de Madrid paid roughly 30 million euros for the former Botafogo player, and are prepared to negotiate as they try to recoup that figure.

Almada's World Cup so far, five games, three starts, 242 minutes, zero goals and zero assists.
