On the final day of the transfer window, América confirmed two defensive additions for Apertura 2026. According to Americayya.net, centre-backs Santiago Bueno and Santiago Mingo have been finalised.
First to arrive was Uruguay-born Bueno, joining from Wolverhampton in England on a one-year loan with an option to buy.
Mingo then reached Mexico City to sign, moving from Bahia in Brazil in a deal worth around six million dollars.
Mingo said the club's size and the project drew him to América, adding that he was grateful for the interest.
The defender is strong inside the box and less comfortable stepping out to face quick forwards, reacting best when well positioned. He also offers progressive passing that could aid the attack, an attribute already present with Israel Reyes.
Bueno’s profile is seen as complementary to Mingo, and if both adapt, they could form an appealing partnership. That could also allow Israel Reyes to feature in midfield or at right-back, which would be for the coaching staff to decide.
