Arsenal reportedly have a serious concern over Gabriel Martinelli’s future, with the Brazilian winger’s contract due to expire in a year’s time.
The 24-year-old is seemingly on Barcelona’s radar and could be available for around €50m this summer, according to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes.
It remains to be seen what will happen with Martinelli, but the Fichajes report explains that the Gunners are very concerned by the situation.
It would certainly be a blow for Arsenal to lose Martinelli on a free transfer, but at the same time they might not be too keen to give him a new deal after some highly inconsistent form this season.
According to Transfermarkt, Martinelli’s contract runs until 2027 but also has the option to be extended by one more year.
That could be the best option for AFC, but it might also be smart for them to think about selling him now if there is genuine and concrete interest from Barca.
If Arsenal are to progress as a club, they probably need a major signing in attack this summer as Martinelli simply hasn’t been able to do the job week in, week out in the Premier League this term.
The Brazil international has just one league goal this term, despite a better record of six goals in the Champions League and four in the FA Cup.
It could be that loan signing Marcus Rashford won’t be staying at Barcelona, with Martinelli perhaps an ideal replacement as someone who can fill in on the left or up front.
Arsenal should surely do their best to take advantage of this situation and bank €50m for Martinelli while they still can.
If they can make that kind of money from letting Martinelli go then it could be a big boost to help fund better signings in this summer’s transfer market.
